Harris Teeter Sr. Tour Finals to Attract a Large Field
PINEHURST, N.C. – The 2005 Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Tour Championship takes place Nov. 8-9 at National Golf Club and Talamore Resort, drawing senior golfers from a dozen separate Harris Teeter senior tours across the Eastern U.S.

Tour president Dennis McCormac expects a field of nearly 200 participants, easily surpassing last year’s record field of 120.

“Our players have been talking about the championship the whole year,” McCormac said. “They’re excited to visit such a great golf destination and play two premier courses. Playing at National Golf Club this year is a special treat. How often do you get a chance to tee it up at a Jack Nicklaus signature course which such a rich history?”

Invitations to the tour championship serve as rewards for golfers who played their local Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Tour and finished in the top 10 of their flight. Tours are divided into four flights based on handicaps: Championship Flight (0-5), A Flight (6-10), B Flight (11-15) and C Flight (16 and above).

Players will come from all 12 tour markets: Charlotte, Detroit, Myrtle Beach, Nashville, Northern Virginia, Ohio River, Orlando, Pinehurst, Raleigh, Tampa, Tri-Cities and the Triad.

Golfers will begin arriving in Pinehurst on Sunday, Nov. 6. Practice rounds are Sunday and Monday at both courses. The 36-hole stroke-play championship starts Tuesday, with the Championship and A flights playing National Golf Club on Tuesday and Talamore on Wednesday. The B and C flights will play at Talamore Tuesday and National on Wednesday.

This year’s prize pool is the largest in the tour’s seven years, with a total of $8,000 in gift certificates awarded. Each flight will distribute $2,000 in certificates to the top 10 finishers and crystal trophies to the winners.

“The tour has experienced tremendous growth this year and Harris Teeter’s sponsorship has been a big part of that,” McCormac said.
