Harris Teeter Senior Tour’s 8th Season Starts Soon
CHARLOTTE – The eighth season of the Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Golf Tour is just around the corner as the tour kicks off a 22-tournament schedule on Feb. 22.
The 2006 season provides senior amateur golfers – age 50 and over – a chance to compete against their peers in a true tour atmosphere on some of the best courses in the area.
This year’s schedule begins Feb. 22 at Stonebridge Golf Club and concludes Oct. 31 on the South course at Raintree Country Club.
Other stops include: Rocky River, Pine Lake Country Club, Rock Barn, NorthStone Country Club, Pine Island Country Club, Kannapolis Country Club and the Country Club of Salisbury. All tournaments are weekday events and begin at 10 a.m.
The tour is open to seniors with handicaps from 0-20, with participants placed in flights according to handicaps. The four flights are: Championship (0-5 handicap), A Flight (6-10), B Flight (11-15) and C Flight (16-20). All USGA rules are in effect.
The top three finishers in each flight at every tourney win gift certificates from Edwin Watts Golf locations in Charlotte, while all participants earn points toward a season-long points championship in their flight.
Those who finish in the top 10 in points in their flight receive invitations to the 2006 Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Tour Championship, Nov. 7-8 in Pinehurst.
“If you’re a senior golfer who hasn’t lost that competitive desire, this is your tour,” said tour president Dennis McCormac. “All you do is sign up and we take care of the rest.”
Tour membership fee is $70 and includes a tour gift pack. Entry fees average $60 per event, and those costs include cart and green fees, range balls and prizes.
Golfers may join the tour any time during the year, and there’s no minimum number of events required. Also eligible are golfers who turn 50 by Sept. 1, 2006.
