Hanna Takes Top Honors in Rain-Shortened Treyburn Open
DURHAM, N.C. -- Richard Hanna of Stanardsville, Va., came away with the $9,000 victory in the Tarheel Tour's weather-shortened Treyburn Open at Treyburn Country Club. The 33-year-old mini-tour veteran was atop the leaderboard after 36 holes were completed. Thursday's final round was knocked out by rain, lightning and darkness.
Hanna goes in the record books as the winner with a 10-under total of 134. He opened with a 68, then fired a decisive bogey-free 66 on Wednesday to move into the lead. The $5,000 second-place check went to former Mercer golfer Jonathan Jenkins of Jonesboro, Ga. Jenkins posted back-to-back 68s that included a hole-in-one in the opening round.
Old Dominion graduate Matt Cannon of Huntersville shared third place with former Georgia State golfer D.J. Fiese of Woodstock, Ga. Both shot 137 and earned $2,750.
Four golfers tied for fifth at 138, earning $1,637.50 apiece. They were: Joey Maxon (Clemson) of Scottsdale, Ariz., Stewart Moore (UNC Charlotte) of Charlotte, Chris Mundorf (N.C. State) of Raleigh and David Seawell (South Carolina) of Columbia, S.C.
The tour takes a week off before returning to action May 24-26 with the Rock Hill Invitational at Rock Hill (S.C.) Country Club.
