Strong Finish Keeps Kilgo in Lead in Tarheel Tour's Verdict Ridge Open
DENVER, N.C. -   By Craig Distl - For the second straight day, Charlotte's Matt Kilgo birdied four of the last five holes to retain his lead in the Tarheel Tour's Verdict Ridge Open at Verdict Ridge Country Club. Kilgo tallied 10 points Wednesday and tops the leader board with 25 points. The tourney features the Stableford Scoring System in which players receive five points for eagle, two points for birdie, none for par, minus one for bogey and minus three for double bogey or higher. 
Kilgo needed an eagle and six birdies to stay ahead of Derek Watson of Manning, S.C. Watson is second with 23 points thanks to an 11-point performance Wednesday that included seven birdies and three bogeys.
Durham's Jason Martin and Len Calvert of Easley, S.C., are tied for third at 19. The field was cut from 74 golfers to 30 for Thursday's final round, begins at 9 a.m.
