Comments | According to Golf Digest's "Places to
Play" guide, The Wellman Club is certainly one of best kept secrets
in South Carolina. The course is considered a hidden gem on the grounds of
the Persimmon Fields community. Designed by Ellis Maples and Ed Seay, the
7,018-yard Wellman Club golf course features lush Bermuda fairways and
well-trapped fast greens, with water on 9 holes. A combination of
beautiful and challenging championship golf and true, friendly Southern
hospitality. It has true natural beauty and large, fast and well-bunkered
greens with several challenging water holes. The signature par 5 11th hole
is worth the ride and is considered a mirror image of the famed 13th holes
at The Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach.
Over the past few years The Wellman Club, close to Myrtle Beach and I-95, has been host to Nike Tour qualifier events and Big South Conference collegiate championships. There have been recent renovations to the clubhouse, pool, pro-shop, bar and banquet facilities, and overall improvements in course condition. A membership at The Wellman Club includes the rights to play Southern Links' two other golf courses: The Links at Lakewood and the Sumter National Golf Club, both in Sumter. Visit the course information pages for The Links at Lakewood and Sumter National Golf Club on Golfholes.com to get a preview of these other two courses. |
